GIR Working Group
May 10, 2006
GGF17, Tokyo, Japan

Presenters:
Gregory Newby (Arctic Region Supercomputing Center)

Paul Kim (Dongguk University)

The session started on time, with about 12 people in attendance.

Dr. Newby presented an overview of the GIR status, including the document status and an introduction to information retrieval on the Grid.

Discussion of the reference implementatioon status followed, with invitations for other people to get involved with reference implementation work.

Attendees asked some questions about GIR, including its suitability for resource discovery (answer=of potential interest, but IR is probably a little more heavy-weight than needed) and overlap with DAIS-WG (answer=strong overlap, and we like their implementation, but IR has the added step of ranking and merging results). The session ended after about 55 minutes.
