GIR Working Group
June 28, 2005
GGF8, Chicago
Presenters:
Gregory Newby (Arctic Region Supercomputing Center)
The session started on time, with 7 people in attendance.
Dr. Newby presented an overview of the
GIR status, including the document status and an introduction to
information retrieval on the Grid.
Dr. Paul Kim of Dongkuk University
presented a new implemetation of GIR-WG, which used the precepts from
the requirements document as a basis for an architecture. The
implementation focused mostly on query processing, but also had
elements of indexing and collection management. The implementation
featured re-tasking individual computational units depending on the
demand for each of these three main functions.
Attendees were invited to attend the
community session on information retrieval, presented by a
representative of DeepWeb Technologies, which runs science.gov with a
similar structure to the GIR-WG structure.
The session ended on time, with an
invitation for attendees to make sure they are on the gir-wg mailing
list.
