About the working group

The GIR working group (GIR-WG) is a proposed standard under the Global Grid Forum (GGF). The formal standardization process involves development by the working group of documents specifying the proposed standard and of two software "reference implementations," as in the IETF model. Development of the GIR documents and software is well under way, but the working group continues to seek broader input from both the grid and IR communities on how to improve the proposed standard.

The working group normally meets at GGF conferences and has weekly interim meetings via teleconference or videoconference. The GIR-WG mailing list also provides a forum for official discussions. The working group is open and follows the IETF/GGF conventions of "rough consensus."

The working group Co-Chairs are Greg Newby (Arctic Region Supercomputing Center), Nassib Nassar (Etymon), and Paul Kim (Dongguk University). The Secretary is Sousan Karimi (MCNC/CNIDR).
